Developing Strength and Endurance through Running
Whether you are thinking about starting to run, you are a social runner already, or you are currently a competitive runner, the FC3 Runners Club invites you to be a part of this Running Season. No matter what your age, gender, or current ability, the FC3 Runners Club is a great place to connect and run.
The benefits of running have been well documented: increased endurance, increased strength, increased speed, increased social network, weight loss, more energy for all of life’s challenges and opportunities. We invite you to discover all of these benefits and more!
Long Distance Runner and Coach, Simon Smith has participated and competed in many distances from 5K’s, full marathons, to doing an Ironman Triathlon. He has raced as a sponsored athlete for Team Polar Canada, and represented Canada at the World Masters Track and Field Championships 2011. None of this would have been possible without proper coaching, participation and encouragement that comes from being part of a running group.
This running season will focus on each person’s goal, whether it is running a few kilometers without stopping, completing a 5K, or “racing” a greater distance.

New Runners
The focus will be on the basics of running, especially running at a “conversational pace” which will help runners go a longer distance at a manageable pace. This is also the running “zone” where the body is best able to burn calories from stored fats.
Runners at this level will experience noticeable improvements in the ability to run without stopping and in distance ran.
The “tempo” and “speed” workouts will be optional for those who want to try.
Experienced Runners
Runners at this level will be given a good mix of conversational running as well as tempo and speed workouts. The focus will be on fun – but we will try to improve the overall “pace” of the runner through various workouts.
Runners at this level will be encouraged to have a “time” goal in mind for a certain distance so that they can measure their achievements.
Half Marathon Group
We will offer an optional “half marathon” goal for anyone interested – the workouts for this will start in conjunction with the Spring session and the actual race will take place in the Fall of 2012…this will give anyone with this goal in mind the time and program to pull this off.
This is a great challenge…and a greater accomplishment for anyone who wants to do this.
Overall
The FC3 Runners Club is inclusive of all abilities and works together as a team to encourage each other to reach their individual potential. We look forward to an outstanding 2012!
